Joanna Wyciślik–Sośnierz, DEng, successfully defended her PhD thesis on particulate emissions during the welding of corrosion-resistant steels, receiving honours for her work. The findings of her research support the development of safer and more environmentally friendly welding technologies.

At the ICMCTF 2026 in San Diego, experts from Łukasiewicz – GIT presented research on PVD coatings and high-temperature materials, thereby strengthening the institute’s position in the international scientific community.

During the ‘Steel Industry’ panel at the 2026 European Economic Congress (EEC), experts discussed the challenges facing the steel sector, investment, and the importance of domestic production capacity for Europe’s security.

Dr Paulina Copik, MSc, from Łukasiewicz – GIT has been awarded a prestigious DAAD scholarship for 2026. As part of the project, she will undertake a research visit to Fraunhofer UMSICHT to develop technologies for the decarbonisation of heavy industry.

On 24 April, the EEC will host a session entitled ‘Metallurgy’, focusing on the challenges and future of the steel sector. Dr Hanna Purzyńska, Director of the Materials Research Centre at Łukasiewicz – GIT, will take part in the debate.

New guidelines for Certified Welder Training Centres came into force on 1 February 2026. The changes relate to training programmes, the number of hours and the scope of practical exercises.

During this year’s Industrial Spring in Kielce, Łukasiewicz – GIT organised a seminar on modern welding processes, and the SW07 system was awarded the Targi Kielce Medal.

To mark National Materials Engineering Day 2026, pupils from schools in Gliwice visited the Łukasiewicz – GIT laboratories and learnt about the modern face of materials engineering.
