Łukasiewicz – GIT at ICMCTF 2026 in San Diego – presence at the forefront of global surface engineering research

Researchers from the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Upper Silesian Institute of Technology actively participated in the International Conference on Metallurgical Coatings and Thin Films (ICMCTF 2026) in San Diego – one of the world’s most prestigious events dedicated to surface engineering, thin-film coatings, and advanced materials technologies.

During this year’s edition of the conference Adam Zieliński, BEng, PhD, DSc, ProfTit and Radosław Swadźba, PhD, DSc, presented their research results, contributing to key global developments in high-temperature materials and protective coating technologies.

Professor Adam Zieliński, Director of Łukasiewicz – Upper Silesian Institute of Technology (Łukasiewicz – GIT), presented the results of advanced material research – entitled “The Influence of Long-Term Aging in Air Atmosphere on the Precipitation Process of Inconel 740H Alloy”. The presented research results concerned the mechanisms of microstructural stability in nickel-based alloys designed for operation under extreme high-temperature conditions, representing an important contribution to the understanding of material durability in energy and high-temperature industrial applications.

Meanwhile Radosław Swadźba, PhD, DSc, delivered an invited talk, presenting at the special invitation of the conference organizers. His lecture, titled “Microstructure and Oxidation of PVD Coatings on TiAl and Ni Superalloys for High-Temperature Applications” , addressed the advanced PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coatings applied to titanium aluminides and nickel-based superalloys designed for low- and high-pressure turbines in jet engines.

Participation of the Łukasiewicz – GIT team in ICMCTF 2026 was not only an opportunity to present research findings on an international stage, but also a key step in strengthening the Institute’s position within the global scientific community. Direct exchange of expertise with leading academic and industrial research centers opens new avenues for collaboration and lays the foundation for future international research projects.
