Individuals interested in attending the International/European Welding Technologist (I/EWT) Course can now take advantage of an additional training session starting on 14 September 2026. At the same time, the minimum entry requirements for admission to the course and examination have been updated, allowing a wider group of candidates with relevant educational backgrounds or professional experience to apply.
Minimum Entry Requirements for the Course/Examination
Candidates may be admitted to the course if they meet one of the following requirements:
- They have completed upper secondary education meeting the requirements of Level 3 of the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED). This includes secondary schools leading to a secondary school leaving certificate or a vocational qualification (general secondary schools and technical secondary schools – STM*). The curriculum must include at least mathematics, physics and chemistry;
or
- They have completed education that does not include physics and chemistry (provided that mathematics is included in the Level 3 curriculum), but have at least two years of professional experience in metalworking or welding gained within the last five years prior to submitting the application;
or
- They have educational qualifications other than those listed above but can demonstrate at least five years of professional experience in metalworking or welding gained within the last eight years prior to submitting the application.
Candidates should note that mathematics is a fundamental subject essential for understanding the IWT training programme.
The additional training session begins on 14 September 2026.
