Representatives of Łukasiewicz – Upper Silesian Institute of Technology took part in the final review meeting of the AID4GREENEST project, held in Brussels on 27 October 2026. Jarosław Opara, DEng and Radosław Rozmus, DEng represented the Institute at the meeting, which brought together members of the international consortium and representatives of the European Commission. The project successfully passed the review.

The AID4GREENEST – AI-powered characterization and modelling for green steel technology project focuses on the use of artificial intelligence for materials characterisation and modelling of technological processes supporting the development of green steelmaking. Its objective is to develop advanced research and computational tools that can help improve industrial process efficiency and reduce their environmental impact.

The meeting in Brussels provided an opportunity to review the activities carried out by the consortium and to present to the European Commission the most significant scientific and technical achievements, the completed project results, and their potential impact on the development of green steelmaking technology.

The review was attended by representatives of the European Commission and all organisations forming the consortium: ePotentia, EurA, Fraunhofer IWM, IMDEA Materials, Łukasiewicz – GIT, OCAS NV, Reinosa Forgings & Castings, the Spanish Association for Standardization (UNE), the University of Liège and the University of Oulu.

Representatives of the international consortium attending the meeting included Ilchat Sabirov from IMDEA Materials, Mahesh Somani from the University of Oulu, Michael Sluydts from ePotentia, Maxim Zapara from Fraunhofer IWM, Kurt Lejaeghere from OCAS, Carlos Rojas from the University of Liège, Leo Kestens and Tuan Nguyen Minh from Ghent University, and Mary Osorio from EurA. Łukasiewicz – GIT was represented by Jarosław Opara, DEng and Radosław Rozmus, DEng. The consortium also includes Reinosa Forgings & Castings and the Spanish Association for Standardization (UNE).

Professor Roman Kuziak is the project coordinator on behalf of Łukasiewicz – GIT. His expertise and extensive experience in materials engineering and metallurgy make a significant contribution to the implementation of the project’s objectives.

Łukasiewicz – GIT’s participation in AID4GREENEST demonstrates the Institute’s commitment to international research and development projects that combine advanced materials research, computational modelling and technologies supporting the transformation of the steel industry.
