On 12 June 2026, at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Technology of the Silesian University of Technology, a public defence of Mr. Piotr Knapik’s doctoral dissertation took place. As a result of the successfully completed doctoral procedure, he was awarded the degree of Doctor in the discipline of materials engineering.
The dissertation entitled “Development and production of certified reference materials for steel and nickel alloy powders for quality control of the production process using additive manufacturing technologies” addressed issues related to quality assurance in additive manufacturing processes. The results of the research constitute a significant contribution to the development of quality control methods for materials used in modern production technologies.
The dissertation was supervised by Piotr Konieczka, BEng, PhD, DSc, ProfTit, (Gdańsk University of Technology). The reviewers were: Ewa Bulska, PhD, DSc, ProfTit, (University of Warsaw), Marek Hebda, BEng, PhD, DSc, Prof. PK (Kraków University of Technology), and Tomasz Śleboda, BEng, PhD, DSc, Prof. AGH (AGH University of Krakow).
The awarding of the doctoral degree to Piotr Knapik is an important achievement both for him personally and for the research team at the Materials Research Centre. This success confirms the high quality of ongoing research and the consistent development of scientific competences in the field of materials engineering and modern manufacturing technologies.
