Project objective:

The aim of the project is to develop and prepare for the implementation of a range of electric motors with low magnetic signature and high resistance to mechanical shocks, intended for military applications, in particular on naval vessels.

Magnetic signature is a very important issue concerning the safety of shipping, as well as the identification and classification of vessels. Furthermore, military applications of magnetic signatures relate to the activation of, or protection against the activation of, naval magnetic mines. Therefore, electric motors used on naval vessels must have a low acoustic and magnetic signature and high resistance to mechanical impact in the event of a threat.

As a result of the research carried out as part of the project, a range of electromagnetic motor circuits with mechanical sizes 71–200 will be developed, characterised by low magnetic field emissions, as well as mechanical components and housing elements with a shock resistance of at least 30 g. A range of results will be obtained through multi-variant calculations and numerical simulations of individual engine components, as well as through experimental and laboratory tests.

The subject matter of the project falls within the first priority area defined in the 4-year and 10-year Strategy of the Łukasiewicz Research Network, namely ‘National Defence and Security’.
