Title: Narrow tapes with enhanced performance characteristics intended for packaging applications and for the automotive and energy industries
Project implemented by a consortium consisting of:
- Lider – NSTEEL Sp. z o.o.
- Consortium member – Sieć Badawcza Łukasiewicz – Górnośląski Instytut Technologiczny
Name of the programme: European Funds for a Modern Economy
Total value of the project: PLN 9 437 618.50
Total funding from the European Funds: PLN 4 792 984.70
Value of the project for Łukasiewicz – GIT: PLN 1 830 087.73
Funding from the European Funds for Łukasiewicz – GIT: PLN 1 830 087.73
Timeframe of the project: 01.07.2026 – 30.06.2029
Project objective:
The project aims to develop and implement in serial production innovative steel strips with widths ranging from 5 to 32 mm and thicknesses from 0.4 to 2.0 mm, characterized by tighter dimensional tolerances, burr-free edges, and enhanced mechanical strength properties. The project also involves the development of an innovative coil sheet cutting technology, enabling the production of narrow steel strips with high dimensional accuracy, burr-free edges, and improved performance characteristics. An important element of the project will also be the development of a process for repairing and utilizing second-grade steel sheets, including cold rolling, levelling, and intermediate heat treatment. This will enable their efficient use in the production of high-quality steel strips.
Project Activities and Outcomes:
As part of the project, industrial research and development activities will be carried out, leading to the production of three product lines of steel strips: packaging strips, strips for the automotive industry, and strips for the energy sector. Analysis of tool parameters will enable the procurement of technologically optimized equipment, including circular slitting knives, ring knives, and cutting tools. To implement the research program, the purchase of materials (steel sheet coils) has been planned. The outcome of the project will be the implementation of an innovative manufacturing technology and the launch of production of new products with performance characteristics currently unavailable on the domestic market.
Target groups / Applications:
The beneficiaries of the project results will be companies operating in the automotive, energy, and packaging industries that use narrow steel strips for the manufacture of components and structural elements.
