Objective:
The main objective of the project is to develop anti-wear coatings on a substrate with increased resistance to cracking, adapted to the specificity of gear teeth for conveyor drive units, with unique features that predestine them to work in difficult operating conditions characterised by the presence of solid contaminants in lubricating oil.
A representative result of the project will be a prototype of a gearbox characterised by increased wear resistance and reduced resistance due to a dedicated subamorphic anti-wear coating. The features demonstrating innovation on an international scale will be resistance to abrasive and adhesive wear (clamping) of gears and reduced friction resistance significantly higher than the currently used solutions. To achieve the above objective, a new method of manufacturing gear teeth combining modern methods of surface hardening and production of carbon coatings with unique anti-wear properties will be developed.
A distinctive feature of the new production method of gears will be the production of a multiphase structure with stable austenite throughout their cross-section, characterised by the presence of primarily ultra ground bainite, as well as higher crack strength compared to heat-treatment steels subjected to surface hardening.
The necessary tasks related to the implementation of the main assumptions of the project are:
- development of the basis for a new volumetric heat treatment of gears,
- development of a method of applying subamorphic anti-wear coatings adapted to the obtained structure,
- and production and testing of innovative gearboxes in operating conditions, similar to actual operation.
According to the knowledge of the implementers, the developed project result, i.e. innovative gearboxes with anti-wear coatings on an ultrafine-grained steel substrate, will be absolutely innovative on a global scale and will constitute a breakthrough innovation.
