Objective:
The planned main objective of this project is to confirm the validity of the concept of establishing a Strategic Programme in the field of circular economy and recycling. In order to achieve the goal of the project, 8 proof of concept (PoC) tasks are to be completed, covering selected areas of recycling: metals, used electronics, post-industrial slags, textiles, and refractory materials.
Planned effects of the research project and their significance for the implementation of the Network’s activity objective:
The research topic of the project is eight new solutions in the field of circular economy technology and recycling in the field of metals and alloys, electronic scrap, refractory ceramics, textiles, and waste slags.
Łukasiewicz Research Network – Upper Silesian Institute of Technology carries out two sub-projects – task 4 and task 8.
Task 4 Creation of analytical solutions to increase the efficiency of analysis of PCB scrap composition
The task carried out jointly at Łukasiewicz – IMN includes conducting exploratory tests to identify the key stages for analysing the chemical composition of PCB scrap. Based on the obtained results, the methodology of analytical proceedings will be developed. The expected effect of the task is to verify the possibility of obtaining a certified reference material (CRM) for electronic scrap. The works planned for implementation include the production of 2 sample materials in the amount of 0.5 kg as well as their characteristics and evaluation, giving the basis for the production of a full-fledged standard in the future, currently unavailable on the market, the composition of which will correspond to the current compositions of electronic scrap.
Task 8: Reducing the use of fluorite in steel production processes by using recycled raw materials
The task concerns limiting the use of fluorite in steel production processes by using recycled raw materials. On the basis of studies conducted at Ł-ICiMB and technological requirements, steel smelting will be carried out in a 30 kg induction furnace. The task will include the execution of experimental heats using three different refining slags.
