32nd FORMING 2026 International Scientific Conference

Four papers, active participation in discussions on the development of advanced manufacturing technologies, and first place in the Best Paper Competition – this is how Łukasiewicz – GIT marked its presence at the 32nd International Scientific Conference FORMING 2026.

Participants at the 32nd FORMING 2026 International Scientific Conference

FORMING 2026 brought together representatives of the scientific community, research institutes and industry from Poland and abroad. The event provided an opportunity to present the latest research findings, exchange experience and discuss developments in materials engineering, metal forming, technological process modelling, materials processing technologies and additive manufacturing.

Representatives of the Manufacturing Technologies Research Group at Łukasiewicz – GIT took part in the conference, which focused on the latest developments in materials engineering, metal forming and manufacturing technologies.

During the event, four papers were presented on surface preparation and coating quality, hot-rolling processes, rail head hardening, and the development of the microstructure and properties of clad steel plates for special applications:

  1. “The influence of abrasive blasting parameters on quality of zinc and organic coatings”
    Marek Burdek, PhD Eng.
  2. “Influence of hot-rolling parameters and thermophysical properties on lateral material flow”
Rafał Palus, MSc Eng., Dariusz Woźniak, PhD DSc Eng., Marek Tkocz, PhD Eng.
  3. “Semi-industrial physical simulation of the R350HT rail head hardening process by selective spray cooling”
Mariusz Adamczyk, MSc Eng., Dariusz Woźniak, PhD DSc Eng., Bartłomiej Walnik, PhD Eng., Artur Żak, PhD Eng.
  4. “Microstructure and properties development of clad steel plates for special applications”
Bartłomiej Walnik, PhD Eng., Dariusz Woźniak, PhD DSc Eng., Bogdan Garbarz, Prof. PhD DSc Eng., Mariusz Adamczyk, MSc Eng., Jarosław Marcisz, PhD DSc Eng., Artur Żak, PhD Eng., Aleksandra Bagińska, MSc Eng., Marek Jelec, MSc Eng.

First place in the Best Paper Competition

A particular highlight of the conference was the first-place award in the Best Paper Competition, presented to Bartłomiej Walnik, PhD Eng., for the paper “Microstructure and properties development of clad steel plates for special applications”.

The paper presented partial results of the Łukasiewicz – GIT project “Development of the structure and properties of clad products intended for special applications, particularly in the defence industry”, led by Bartłomiej Walnik, PhD Eng.

FORMING 2026: award for the best paper presented to Dr Bartłomiej Walnik, Eng.

The awarded paper focuses on the relationship between the microstructure and functional properties of clad steel plates intended for special applications. The research contributes to the development of advanced engineering materials designed to meet the requirements of specialised structures, including those used in the defence sector.

The award certificate was signed by the chairman of the competition committee, Prof. Wojciech Z. Misiołek of Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA.

Congratulations to Bartłomiej Walnik, PhD Eng., and the entire team of authors!
