Students from China visited Gliwice as part of the Winter Camp program, exploring the research potential of Politechnika Śląska and the modern laboratories of Łukasiewicz – GIT. The visit marked another step in the partnership with Yanshan University, which has been developing since 2021 and includes joint research activities and academic exchange.
Since 2021, the Silesian University of Technology and Yanshan University have been expanding their cooperation in research activities and in the exchange of academic staff, doctoral candidates, and students. This partnership continues to strengthen, as demonstrated by the February visit of Chinese students to Gliwice under the Winter Camp program. One of the key elements of their stay was learning about the capabilities of the laser technologies laboratory at Centre of Welding at Łukasiewicz – GIT.
The students from Yanshan University, accompanied by their supervisor, Prof. Mirosław Bonek , Vice-Dean for Student Affairs and Education at the Silesian University of Technology, visited the Łukasiewicz – GIT Welding Centre to gain a deeper understanding of the institute’s activities and explore opportunities for scientific and research collaboration. During the visit, they had the opportunity to see the advanced technological facilities of the electron beam welding and laser technology laboratories.
The potential and scope of ongoing research were presented by members of the Welding Technologies Research Group: Piotr Śliwiński, Mateusz Radoń, and Prof. Aleksander Lisiecki. Prof. Lisiecki, who is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology, spent several weeks in China last year delivering lectures to students at Yanshan University, thereby strengthening relations between the partner institutions.
The event, organized under the Social Responsibility of Science (SON) initiative, demonstrates that science knows no borders—it inspires, connects academic communities, and builds lasting bridges between cultures. The joint initiatives of the Silesian University of Technology, Yanshan University, and Łukasiewicz – GIT exemplify effective international cooperation that fosters the development of modern technologies and the education of future specialists.
