Advanced Materials and Technologies 2026

The Advanced Materials and Technologies conference is one of the most important scientific events dedicated to contemporary materials engineering. This year’s edition, held in Łódź, brought together experts from leading research institutions and industry. The event was organized by the Polish Society of Materials Science and Łódź University of Technology, with the support of the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Among the speakers were researchers from Łukasiewicz – GIT, who presented results of their studies on advanced protective coatings and the high-temperature resistance of materials used in demanding operational environments.

A significant highlight of the conference program were presentations delivered by members of the research group “Investigation of Material Properties and Structure” at Łukasiewicz – GIT.

Dr. hab. inż. Radosław Swadźba presented a paper entitled “Synthesis and High Temperature Oxidation of Nanolaminate MAX Phase Coatings by Closed Hollow Cathode PVD”, focusing on the synthesis and high-temperature oxidation processes of nanolaminate MAX phase coatings produced using Physical Vapor Deposition with a Closed Hollow Cathode. This research is part of a global effort to develop materials with enhanced resistance to extreme service conditions.

Mgr inż. Agnieszka Sasiela presented research results in her paper “Effects of Water Vapor on High-Temperature Oxidation of Uncoated and Aluminide-Coated René N5 Nickel Superalloy at 1000–1200 °C”. The presentation addressed the influence of water vapor on the high-temperature oxidation behavior of a nickel superalloy, both in its uncoated state and with protective coatings. This topic is of particular importance for the development of materials used in the energy and aerospace industries.

The conference was also attended by prof. dr hab. inż. Adam Zieliński, Director of Łukasiewicz – GIT, and dr inż. Hanna Purzyńska, Director of the Materials Research Center at Łukasiewicz – GIT.

Professor Adam Zieliński participated in the expert panel “Advanced Surface Engineering and Functional Coatings”, dedicated to modern surface engineering technologies and functional coatings. During the conference, he also took part in a meeting of the Committee on Materials Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences, where future directions for materials research in Poland were discussed.

The participation of representatives of Łukasiewicz – GIT in the Advanced Materials and Technologies conference was another opportunity to present the Institute’s research achievements, exchange experience with experts from Poland and abroad, and establish new scientific and project collaborations. It also confirmed the Institute’s active role in shaping the future directions of contemporary materials engineering.
