Objective:

The GreenSteel4Rails project is focused on developing and validating, under industrial conditions, a production technology for new-generation, low-carbon, high-strength rail steel, which will be developed in accordance with the principles of the circular economy and sustainable metallurgy. The project addresses strategic challenges of European Union policy, including the pursuit of climate neutrality, reducing emissions in the steel sector, and modernizing transportation systems with rail playing a dominant role as a mode of transport with minimal environmental impact. The project is based on the introduction of innovative material design concepts for rail infrastructure, by combining modern metallurgical technologies, advanced materials engineering strategies, and technology demonstrations under industrial conditions, which form the basis for their future implementation.
