Objective:
As part of the project, research will be carried out on the production of nanolaminate coatings from MAX (M = Cr or Ti and A = Al) materials deposited using various methods of physical vapour deposition (PVD), and new knowledge will be gained about the mechanisms of their degradation in high temperature and atmosphere containing water vapour.
For the first time, three different PVD technologies available in partner institutions in Poland and Germany will be compared, including closed-cathode deposition (CHC-PVD).
Coatings will be applied to substrate materials such as intermetallic TiAl alloys and SiC-SiC ceramic-ceramic composites.
The international cooperation between institutions from Poland and Germany on various methods of coating production gives a unique opportunity to understand the impact of numerous deposition parameters on the properties of nanolaminate MAX coatings.
