(former Welding Institute)<\/li><li>Nicolaus Copernicus University<\/li><li>Plasma System S.A<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Objective:<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>The aim of the project is to develop new layers and coatings involving rhenium, its compounds or alloys and methods of their production.<\/strong> Comprehensive research on the properties of new layers\/coatings will be conducted mainly in terms of their planned applications. The works will be carried out in the direction of preparing the implementation conditions for the effective use of the developed coatings\/layers in applications in which there is an accumulation of destructive factors, such as: high friction, high dynamics of external forces, corrosive effects of the environment, as well as increased temperature. <\/p><p>Currently, the areas of the economy in which rhenium is used are quite limited and focus mainly on the nickel superalloy market. There are also relatively few publications and scientific studies on other applications of rhenium, apart from superalloys. The specific properties of rhenium mean that materials designed on its basis are also intended for specific applications. Most often, research is conducted on rhenium in terms of heat-resistant, hard, and corrosion-resistant alloys. The authors of the project, in line with the substantive scope of CuBR Call II and current research trends, propose the development of high hardness coatings based on super-hard rhenium compounds or composites with the participation of rhenium and new heat-resistant layers modified with rhenium.
